Legal Yin and Yang

Company news
For the third time, Kazan hosted the International Forum “ROSTKI: Russia and China – Mutually Beneficial Cooperation.” Each year, the forum continues to expand in scale, creating new opportunities and opening promising prospects for its participants.

This year, the forum featured 77 business sessions across 17 thematic tracks and nearly 100 events of various formats and levels. More than 10,000 participants registered to attend, including representatives of government, business, academia, and culture from 40 countries, 68 regions of the Russian Federation, and delegations from 28 administrative divisions of the People’s Republic of China.

An important part of the forum was the international exhibition Russia China Expo, spanning 10,000 square meters and showcasing achievements and promising projects in bilateral cooperation. The exhibition brought together 22 Chinese and 71 Russian companies.

Chinese businesses were represented by approximately 200 major companies from a wide range of industries, including energy, heavy industry, shipping, logistics, and construction.

The forum was opened and closed by Rustam Minnikhanov, Rais (Head) of the Republic of Tatarstan.

For the second consecutive year, TIM participated in organizing the forum, contributing expertise on key legal issues affecting Russia–China business relations.

As part of the business program, we hosted the session “Practical Aspects of Legal Regulation of Russia–China Investment and Trade Relations,” moderated by Ilya Trofimov, Partner and Head of TIM’s Legal Practice. We also facilitated the participation of three speakers in the roundtable discussion “Marketplaces: Russia and China – Moving Closer Together.”

The investment session resulted in new business connections among participants and provided practical recommendations on minimizing legal risks when working with Chinese partners.

We would like to thank our distinguished speakers for sharing their expertise. TIM’s forum program featured the following presentations:

  • Chen Zhang, Senior Partner at Yingke Law Firm’s Shanghai Office and Director of the International Markets Department, with the presentation “Legal and Organizational Considerations for Chinese Investors Entering the Russian Market.”
  • Renat Baimukhametov, Partner at Mansors Law Company and arbitrator of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), Hainan International Arbitration Court (HIAC), and Guangzhou Arbitration Commission, with the presentation “Current Practical Issues in Dispute Resolution Between Chinese and Russian Counterparties.”

TIM signed a Cooperation Agreement with the Shanghai office of Yingke Law Firm aimed at providing legal and organizational support for investment and trade relations between Russian and Chinese companies.
